Praying for Our Children

As parents, one of the most important things we can do for our children is to pray for them. Their lives and futures are in God's hands, but through prayer we can actively participate in their growth and development. Here are some tips for making prayer for your children a priority:

  • Pray daily for their protection. The world is a dangerous place, and we need to cover our kids in prayer against sickness, injury, harmful influences, and more. Ask God to place a hedge of protection around them.

  • Pray for their character development. That they would grow to be honest, kind, faithful, generous, and compassionate. Pray that any less desirable character traits would be softened over time through God's work in their lives.

  • Pray for their growth in faith. That they would develop their own meaningful relationship with God from an early age. Pray that God would reveal himself to them in profound ways and that their faith would deepen and grow stronger over time.

  • Pray for their friendships. That they would develop healthy, encouraging friendships that push them closer to God. Pray against negative peer pressure.

  • Pray for their future spouses. It's never too early to ask God to prepare their future spouses and that in his timing, he would bring the two together.

  • Pray for their calling and career path. Seek God's guidance in where he is leading them, and pray that they would have wisdom to make good choices.

  • Pray for their ministries. That your children would find ways, both big and small, to serve God during childhood and that this would develop into a lifelong habit.

As you cover your children in daily prayer, you can rest assured that God hears you and is at work guiding and protecting your children. A parent's prayers pave the way for God's blessings and favor in your child's life. Be vigilant and consistent in praying for them.
