Last Sunday's Message

Sermon Notes

  • The sermon continues in John 8, the same day Jesus confronted the woman caught in adultery and declared Himself the Light of the World.

  • Jesus shifts focus to confronting the religious leaders (Pharisees), highlighting the difference between religion and true relationship with Him.

  • Main theme: “Who’s your daddy?” — Jesus challenges the Jews about who their true spiritual father is.

  • Religion produces:

    • Judgmental attitudes

    • Backbiting and unforgiveness

    • Hypocrisy

  • Being a Jesus follower means pursuing the One who gave His life to save us—not aligning with a religious system.

  • The truth sets you free—but truth also brings persecution.

  • The world resists truth; when believers speak biblical truth, they are often labeled negatively.

  • Jesus was persecuted for speaking truth—and warned that His followers would face persecution as well.

  • Believers must develop spiritual endurance (“thick skin”) to stand firm in a culture that opposes truth.

  • There is no perfect church because there are no perfect people. Hypocrisy and judgment are common human struggles.

  • God judges the heart—not outward appearance.

  • Jesus tells them that if Abraham were truly their father, their actions would reflect his faith—but instead, their behavior reveals a different spiritual influence.

  • The devil is described as the father of lies, and deception is central to his character.

  • The world promotes the idea of “your truth” and “my truth,” but there is only one objective truth found in God’s Word.

  • Sin often appears attractive and harmless at first, but when entertained, it leads to destruction.

  • Trials and hardships are not signs that God is absent; they are tools He uses to strengthen faith.

  • Satan seeks to steal faith, joy, peace, and confidence in God’s goodness.

  • God is a good Father who pursues His children, values them, and never creates junk.

  • Each person must decide how to respond to truth—reject it, resist it, or receive it and be changed.

  • The central challenge:

    • Who are you following?

    • Whose character do you reflect?

    • Does your life align with truth?
